Dieu Donné – ‘A Gift from God’

Dieu Donné Vineyards was acquired by the French-Mauritian, Robert Maingard in 1987 in search of his French roots in South Africa.

The Farm is situated high on the steep south-west facing slopes of the Franschhoek Mountains, which tempers the sun.

This cooling effect ensure slow ripening of our grapes. Thanks to our cool summer conditions and unique soils from weathered granite with a rocky topsoil, called ‘Greywack’, the vines do not show excessive vigour, nor do they over-produce.

These special soils do not get irrigated, further concentrating the flavours and characters of Dieu Donné’s terroir in the grapes. These exceptional conditions give Dieu Donné their special character.

The view from Dieu Donné is well-known among those who wish to identify the famous landmarks of Franschhoek, watch the sun setting over the Simonsberg Mountains or just love enjoying a glass of wine at this scenic spot.

Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc has been made for quite some time now and more recently Dieu Donné started producing a Méthode Cap Classique and Viognier. Merlot is the Flagship wine of the cellar.

Dieu Donné’s wine-maker, Gregory Siebrits, has proudly worked at Dieu Donne since 1998. Gregory has worked his way up the ranks to release his first vintage in 2019 with a new “botanical” range of wines also to released later in the year.

Winemaker — Gregory Siebrits

Dieu Donné’s Winemaker has an interesting story to tell, as he started to work at Dieu Donné when he was 21 years old in June 1997. He was then appointed as driver and general cellar worker for the farm and worked his way up the ladder through the years.

Gregory Siebrits was born and raised in Franschhoek and even his grandparents are from this valley.

Greg’s philosophy is to make wine that can be enjoyed by amateur and connoisseur wine drinkers. He always aim to make wine resembling the terroir of the farm. His motto is to be satisfied at the end of each working day.

He is a true family man, being a father of 4 and grandfather of 2 and loves a seafood paella paired with a glass of Oaked Chardonnay
